Picturesque
town made up of a number of houses situated around an old 16th century "baglio"
(farmhouse) with a paved square and a stone drinking trough. It is said that this
ancient fishing village is situated on the site of the mythical city of Cetaria,
so-called because of the numerous tuna fish in its sea. In summer afternoons and
evenings the centre of the town is closed to traffic thus making it a quiet and
pleasant place to explore.
Scopello is ideal as a base from which to explore
the area as is situated near many places of tourist interest.
